Upper Hutt Maidstone Netball Club

In 2012 Maidstone United Netball club renamed to Upper Hutt Maidstone United Netball Club.

Why the name change?

Like many sports clubs, Maidstone Netball committee noted a steady decline of player numbers over recent years so the committee had to develop a strategy to attract and keep our players.

From general discussion on how to improve growth in our club the decision was made to revitalise and reinvent our look, to raise our Club’s profile in order to stabilise the club for future netball generations, and enhance our already well-established player Academy.

Players wanted to not only play for their city, Upper Hutt, but to be proud to represent, so in placing Upper Hutt to the forefront of  our club name it immediately identifies the origin of our club and player base  and connects us more with our community and region.

With a strong turn-out at the 2012 Club Trials, Upper Hutt Maidstone United will have 11 teams in the Hutt Valley, taking to the court with an exciting new line up in our Premier 1 Team, strong experience in our Premier 2 team, an extremely competitive Premier 3, along with senior and social grade teams, for the 2012 season.  These teams are supported by our strong committee, and a full contingent of experienced Coaches, Managers and umpires.

UH Maidstone United committee implemented a positive initiative to reconnect with Upper Hutt Rugby Club, as it offers a like-minded willingness for both sporting codes to nurture a closer relationship to support each other, and to build a strong sporting hub in Upper Hutt with a focus on developing and nurturing our players, Coaches and Team officials with the goal to achieve top results and performances for all teams.

The revitalising of our club means we will take a new look uniform to the courts this season, whilst still retaining our well established club colours of maroon and white that complements our initiative to reconnect with UH Rugby club.

We take this opportunity to thank our main sponsors, Peryer Construction Limited and Kukiri Clothing, for without them we could neither implement nor achieve the new profile for our club and thank them both for their huge support and commitment to our club and players.

We thank our life members for their support of our club, and in particular our Club Patron, Harry Kerr, who I also understand is a life member of Upper Hutt Rugby Club.  Special thanks also to those Club members’ who have personally energised themselves to explain, motivate and move our club forward into another timeline in this great netball clubs history.
