Jane has played a key role in the development and growth of the Manukau Masters Swimming Club during her more than 14 years of involvement with the club.

As the club’s honorary coach, Jane volunteers her time freely on a Saturday morning to coach our training sessions at 6:30 in the morning, rain or shine all year round. Her infectious laugh, sense of humour and fun and interesting programmes that she develops is the key reason many of our swimmers get out of bed after a hard week of work.

Her dedication and passion for swimming is such that she coaches our club despite having been out of bed at 5am most mornings of the week to coach other swimmers in both her professional and volunteering capacity as a swimming instructor and coach.

With her more than 35 years of experience in and around swimming, Jane is always willing to lend support to the club and it’s endeavours. In addition to her coaching, Jane has supported the club and it’s members over the years in a variety of ways including:

  • Team coach and competitor at the World Master’s Swimming Championships held in Christchurch in 2002. A team of approximately 15 qualified and attended from the club with many making Top 10 placings in their age group.
  • Support and guidance on all club matters including governance, financial, and membership.
  • Prepares special programmes for club members, tailoring training programmes to meet specific goals such as National Championship Meets or Open Water Swims.
  • Trained two club members for their attempt on the Cook Straight Crossing in February 2013.
  • Provides support and inspiration for club activities such as 100 100’s on 100 seconds where a team of swimmers challenged themselves and successfully swam 100 metres, 100 times on a one minute 40 second repeat.
  • Mixes her support of Masters Swimming with her involvement in children’s swimming to show her young charges that swimming can be a life-long passion. This is best evidenced by her involvement with the NZ Swimming Epic Swim Event held in Lake Taupo each January. While supporting her junior swimmers, she supports and guides her Master’s swimmers while also competing herself.
  • Her support of Masters Swimming and her involvement in Special Olympic swimming has seen a group of Master’s swimmers initiated and supported by Jane, coach the local Special Olympic swimmers. Jane’s dedication to her chosen sport of swimming is evidenced by the fact that at least one club member had Jane as a swimming coach when she swam for Counties Manukau as a teenager and is now under her guidance again as an adult.
