John Parker was the founder of the Melville Cricket Club in 1977 and its inaugural Club Coach. At the time of foundation, John was Vice Captain of the New Zealand team. John was Club Coach from 1977 to 1983 and was President in 1983. His playing career consisted of representing Hamilton, Northern Districts and New Zealand.
John was awarded Life Membership on 28 June 1998 at the club’s 20th AGM, making him the Club’s second life member.
Eddy Marr was also a foundation member of the Melville Cricket Club in 1977, initially being Groundsman and the next season being the Club Captain. Eddy acted as Secretary from 1981 to 1982 and in 2004, President from 1987 to 1994 then Vice President in 1995 and back to President 1997 to 2001.
Eddy became the Club Coach 2003 to 2005 but was the Club Groundsman from the Clubs inception to 2005, a staggering 28 years of service.
Beyond Melville, Eddy was elected Chairman of the Hamilton Cricket Association in 1982 and subsequently received a Life Membership of that body in 1995.
Eddy Marr was made a Life Member of the Melville Cricket Club on 18 June 2000 and passed away in 2010.
Adil Somani’s began with the Melville Cricket Club as a Junior in 1981, and was selected to the New Zealand Under-20s from 1985 to 1987 as well as appearances for Northern Districts and Hamilton. Adil won the Clubs Best and Fairest award five times across 1988 to 1999, which included a record-breaking innings of 219* against Eastern Suburbs in February 1996 - at that point the most runs in a single innings for Melville.
Adil was the Melville Club Coach from 1992 to 1999, and moved to the Pukekohe Metro Cricket Club in 2002.
In recognition of his service, Adil was made a life member of the Melville Cricket Club in 2003.
B. Wynn McCabe’s served with distinction as the Melville Cricket Club Secretary and Treasurer from 1996 to 2006, while also been recognised as Club Personality in 2000.
At the AGM on 18 June 2007, Mrs B Wynn McCabe was made a Life Member of the Melville Cricket Club for her service and contribution to the club.
Trevor William Howe was also a foundation member of the Melville Cricket Club in 1977, being the Senior Team Manager from 1977 through to 1981.
Trevor was also the Club Captain in 1982 and Club Treasurer 1986 and Secretary 1986 to 1990.
Trevor was also one of the Clubs Honorary Vice President for a number of years, and at the 2007 AGM, Mr Trevor W Howe was made a Life Member of the Melville Cricket Club for his service and contribution to the club, passing away in 2013.
