The Melville Cricket Club offers junior cricket for girls and boys from Year 3 to Year 8 who wish to play in a team.

Our focus is on providing a fun environment to develop cricket skills and a love of the game. 

Players of all abilities and experience are welcome.

Competitions

There are several options to play junior cricket.

Teams will be entered in competitions as numbers allow.

1. Friday night softball cricket:  Year 3-8.  Played on modified grounds and pitches at several venue hubs around Hamilton.  Soft balls and plastic equipment are used.  Games usually start at 5.30pm and take 60-70 minutes.
2. Saturday morning hardball cricket:  Year 5-8.  Played at various venues around Hamilton.  Leather balls and protective equipment (helmets, pads, gloves, box) are used.  Games take around 2-3 hours. 
3. Wednesday night Girls cricket:  Year 5-8. There are softball or hardball options. 

Equipment

Melville CC will provide all playing equipment and balls for games. 

Softball

Plastic stumps, bats, balls, batting tees and cones provided.

Hardball

Provided with 4 sets of player kit (bat, pads, gloves, helmet) per team as well as stand up stumps, balls and cones.  Hardball players will need to provide their own abdominal guard (box).  

Managers and coaches will be responsible for maintaining team gear bags. 

Fees and Registration

These are set term by term. 

Registration and payment is done via PlayHQ (Melville Cricket Club).

All players are charged a one-off $20 enrolment fee to cover their club playing shirt and cap. 

Friday night softball cricket            $40

Saturday hardball                            $60

Practice

We are fortunate to have a partnership with Melville Intermediate School and use of their 3 cricket nets, field and pitch for after-school practices.  These can be held any night of the week that suits teams and coaches. 

The club will endeavour to provide extra coaching clinics for any interested junior players.  These will be targeted sessions run by our Senior Men’s Premier team players and will be advertised on our Facebook page. 

Coaches

We rely on parent involvement to coach and manage junior teams. 

Support will be provided for coaching development. ​​​​​​​
