1930

• Waikato challenges Canterbury unsuccessfully for the Ranfurly Shield - the first time any Waikato team plays in the South Island.
• Waikato supply 14 of 15 players for a combined side that plays Great Britain at Rugby Park. Great Britain wins 40-16 before a crowd of 13,000. It is the first radio broadcast of a match in Hamilton.

1936

• Taupiri, Waipa and Hamilton sub-unions combine for a club competition and compete for the Stag Trophy. The inaugural winner is Hamilton Old Boys.

1937

• South Africa visit Hamilton and play a combined side featuring five Waikato players. A record crowd of 17,553 witness the 6-3 win to South Africa at Rugby Park.

1938

• The Harlequins club is formed to help develop young rugby players in the Waikato.

1939

• Outbreak of World War II and many Waikato players sign up. Several Waikato players had been in line for the New Zealand tour to South Africa.
