NBHS SPORTS - CODE OF CONDUCT
PARENT’S CODE
- Do not force an unwilling boy to participate in sport.
- Remember boys are involved in sport for their enjoyment, not yours.
- Encourage your boy to always play by the rules.
- Teach your boy that honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
- Turn defeat into victory by helping your child work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a game
- Remember that boys learn best by example. Recognise and acknowledge good play by your team and by members of the opposing team.
- Do not publicly question the referee’s judgement and never his/her honesty.
- Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sport.
- Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give of their time and knowledge to provide recreational activities for your boy.
PLAYER’S CODE
- Play by the rules.
- Never argue with the referee’s decisions. Let your captain or coach ask any necessary questions.
- Control your temper. Don’t mouth off!!
- Work equally hard for yourself and your team, the team’s performance will benefit and so will your own.
- Be a good sport. Acknowledge all good play.
- Play to enjoy a great team game not just to please your parents or coach.
- Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Don’t interfere with, bully, or take unfair advantage of other players.
- Remember that the goals of the game are to improve your skills and feel good. Don’t be disrespect your opponents or own team members.
- Co-operate with your coach, teammates and opponents, for without them you don’t have a game.
SPECTATOR’S CODE
- REMEMBER that boys play organised sports for their own fun.
- Be on your best behavior.
- Don’t use bad language or harass players, coaches, or referees.
- Applaud good play by your own team and the visiting team.
- Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no games.
- Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake during a game.
- Condemn the use of violence in all forms.
- Respect the referee’s decision.
- Encourage players to play according to the rules.
