New Brighton Netball  recognises that everyone involved in our netball club community is here because of a shared passion and love for netball. New Brighton Netball Club aims to connect our community through netball by building relationships,fostering belonging and creating a positive shared experience by providing a safe, inclusive, enjoyable and welcoming environment free from discrimination. We welcome all members regardless of age, gender, ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, or background.Discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated and expects everyone involved in its activities to show respect and be courteous in their interactions with each other. While participating in netball (or other activities managed by New Brighton Netball Club), children and young people in particular must be positively encouraged, cared for and their welfare prioritised. Everyone involved in our netball club community is expected to take responsibility for their own actions, contribute positively to the netball environment and comply with our policies and rules.

Purpose 

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected of all members of New Brighton Netball Club. It aims to create a safe, inclusive, respectful, and positive environment for everyone involved in our club.This Code applies to all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents/guardians, spectators, and committee members.

Application 

This code applies to anyone involved in and with New Brighton Netball Club. This includes volunteers, participants, supporters, club members, employees, service providers and families/whanau of participants. It is to be read and followed together with Christchurch Netball Centre’s policies and procedures. 

Expected behaviours 

Everyone involved with New Brighton Netball Club  must obey the law, at all times. Everyone is expected to: 1. Act in good faith towards New Brighton Netball Club. 2. Show commitment to New Brighton Netball Clubs purpose and values. 3. Follow the principles of fair play, and encourage others to do the same. 4. Respect the rights, dignity and value of others. 5. Be considerate and treat everyone fairly and equally. 6. Be a positive role model. 7. Communicate with others in a way that is honest and considerate. 8. Be committed to providing a quality service and sporting environment. 9. Behave responsibly and ethically at all times. 10. Not behave in a way that is discriminatory, bullying, harassing, racist, sexist, violent, abusive or otherwise inappropriate towards others, in person or online. 11. Remain free of the influence of drugs, performance enhancing substances and alcohol while involved in New Brighton Netball activities. 12. Ensure safe and healthy practices at all times. 13. Follow this code,New Brighton Netball and Christchurch Netball Centre’s policies and procedures, and any applicable rules issued by Christchurch Netball Centre and Netball New Zealand. 14. Report breaches of this code, New Brighton Netball policies and procedures in a timely and appropriate way to either your coach, Junior/Senior Club Captain or a member of our committee or Executive Committee . In addition to the ‘Expected Behaviours’ set out above (which apply to all), the following also apply: 

Participants 

Participants are expected to: 1. Play competitively and fairly. 2. Play by the rules of Netball. 3. Be humble in both success and defeat. 4. Be respectful of officials/umpires, coaches, team managers, team mates and other competitors. 5. Refrain from arguing with or abusing officials/umpires, coaches and team managers. 6. Be cooperative with officials/umpires, coaches, team manager, team mates and other competitors. 

Family/Whãnau/Parents/Guardians

Family/Whãnau of participants are expected to: 1. Encourage participation, enjoyment, and good sportsmanship. 2. Refrain from coaching or criticising players during matches. 3.Never abuse or intimidate players, officials, or spectators. 4. Support club policies and decisions.5. Encourage participants to play by the rules of Netball. 6. Encourage low-level resolution of disagreements. 7. Be appreciative of officials/umpires, coaches, team managers and respect their decisions. 

Spectators

Spectators of participants are expected to: 1.Support all players in a positive and respectful manner.

2. Never use offensive language or gestures. 3.Respect umpires’ decisions.4. Refrain from coaching or criticising players during matches. 5.Follow venue and club rules. 6. Never abuse or intimidate players, officials, or other spectators

Coaches / Managers

Team managers/supervisors are expected to: 1. Be responsible and accountable for the overall management and well-being of the team. 2. Create a collaborative and inclusive team environment. 3. Have a good understanding of New Brighton Netball Club and Christchurch Netball Centres’ policies and other relevant Netball rules or guidelines, ensuring the team acts in accordance with them. 4. Respect and treat all participants fairly and equally. 5. Support participants to reach their full potential.4. Operate within the rules of Netball, and the principles of fair play, while encouraging participants to do the same. 6. Advocate an environment free of drugs, alcohol and performance enhancing substances, guided by Drug Free Sport New Zealand. 6. Display courtesy, respect, honesty and professionalism to everyone involved in the activities of New Brighton Netball Club, including family/whanau, other competitors, coaches, officials/umpires and team managers.7. Provide a safe sporting environment. Making sure all equipment, rules, training and environments are appropriate, taking into account participants’ ages, maturity (physical and emotional), experience and ability. Encouraging participants to seek medical advice when sick or injured. Be alert to the abuse of participants, verbally, physically and emotionally. 

Organisation based Umpires / Officials 

Umpires/Officials are expected to: 1. Officiate matches fairly and impartially, placing participant safety at the heart of their approach. 2. Have a thorough understanding of Netball rules. 3. Condemn unsporting behaviour and encourage respect for competitors. 4. Support other umpires/officials and encourage respect for them. 5. Treat all participants equally, and with dignity and respect and 6. Conduct themselves in an ethical way.

Social Media

All members and affiliates with New Brighton Netball Club are expected to. 1.Use social media responsibly and respectfully. 2. Never participate in online bullying, harassment, or negative commentary. 3.Never post content that could harm the reputation of the club or its members

Reporting a breach Individuals who wish to report an alleged breach of this policy should follow the complaints procedure outlined in the complaints policy and procedure. 

Breaches of this Code may result in:

  • A verbal warning

  • A written warning

  • Temporary suspension

  • Removal from the club

All incidents will be handled fairly and confidentially by the club committee.
