INTERCLUB RACING

Club Racing is an important and fun part of learning to ride. The structure of race events is driven by the summer season and daylight savings in New Zealand which is roughly September to April. The BMXNZ Major events locked into defined weekends every year, followed by the Regional Championships, then all local events follow on around these.

INTERCLUB RACING

Interclub racing alternates between North Canterbury, North Avon and Christchurch City tracks. These are held on Sunday mornings throughout the BMX season (Aug – April) when there is no a regional or major bmx event scheduled.

All riders including newbies will need to check in manually at the points hut which is typically 9.00am. Please have your plate number ready at registration. Riders are welcome to practise the track with racing starting at 10.00am.

Just before racing starts, the riders are sorted into their ability groups.  Groups and names are called out for riders to move up to the start ramp ready for their races.  We generally start from the youngest riders and work up to the older ones.  After which we start again with the youngest. We do this 4 times, so all riders get 4 motos (races) each, ending with a final.

ENTRY FEES:

Ranges from $6.00 - $8.00 depending on the club.

Remember to bring cash!

You are allowed to ride as a casual rider for up to 3 weeks, after which you must become a full member to continue racing. This is a condition of our affiliation to BMXNZ.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO BMX? Please ask a committee member and we'll be more than happy to help!

INTERCLUB SERIES

Every season we run our traditional Interclub Series “points racing” system. There are a total of 6 races held at the three Canterbury clubs.

Points are awarded based on finishing position for each race.  Riders accumulate points through the season, and this is used at the end of the season to determine trophy winners for each age group.

Note that your final finishing position for the season will be based on your overall total, so you don't want to miss an event otherwise it will affect your end result.

Faster riders can optionally race above their own age group.  Some of the experienced riders do this for increased competition to better prepare them for large race meetings such as Nationals.  However,  you cannot change age groups mid-season.
