Waitemata FC has become the latest and 13th club in the NRF region to achieve accreditation through New Zealand Football's Club Support Programme, marking an important milestone in the club's ongoing commitment to strong governance, sustainability and delivering the best possible experience for its members.
The accreditation recognises clubs that demonstrate excellence in areas such as leadership, governance, planning and operations, helping to build stronger organisations that are well-equipped for long-term success.
For Waitemata FC, the decision to take part in the programme was driven by a desire to continuously improve both on and off the field.
"We're always looking for ways to improve," the club said. "The accreditation gave us the chance to review how we operate, strengthen our processes and ensure we're building a sustainable club for the future. It was a valuable experience that highlighted both our strengths and areas where we could improve”.
"The resources were excellent, and the support from Harrison and Zach made a huge difference. Having someone available to encourage and guide us through the process was invaluable."
One of the biggest outcomes has been creating systems that are less reliant on individual volunteers, ensuring the club is better positioned for continued growth.
"It has helped us build stronger systems that don't rely on one or two people and made club information much more accessible. As the club grows, having clear processes and strong governance will help ensure long-term success while providing greater clarity for our members."
Already, the accreditation process has delivered tangible improvements. Waitemata FC has made its policies and club information easier for members to access through its website and plans to continue reviewing and refining those documents during the off-season. The club also says its committee structure has become significantly stronger.
"Every committee member now has a clearly defined role, which has spread the workload instead of relying on just a few people. As a result, we've seen noticeable improvements across the club, both on and off the field."
"We were surprised by how many good practices we already had in place. It turns out we are a really well-run club, but we also saw how a few small improvements could make such a big difference to the way we operate."
With accreditation now complete, Waitemata FC enters the 2027 season with renewed confidence.
"We've built a stronger foundation heading into the new season. We'll be more organised, more confident and better prepared than ever before."
For clubs considering undertaking the programme, Waitemata FC's advice is simple.
"Absolutely do it. The programme encourages you to step back and look at your club differently. It takes some time, but the long-term benefits are well worth the effort."
