About Nuku Ora and the Healthy Active Learning Initiative:

Nuku Ora is the independent body for physical activity in the Wellington region. The concept of Nuku Ora is built around the whakataukī "Kia rau nuku, kia rau wai, kia rau ora," symbolising movement, life and joy. It encompasses the outcomes that we want to achieve in our region and reflects our vision of “Hauora - Everyone active, healthy, and happy.”

Nuku Ora is committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi within our organisation and through the mahi we do.

As part of the Healthy Active Learning team, you will contribute to a nationwide initiative focused on improving the wellbeing of children through quality physical activity, healthy eating, and a holistic approach to education. By working collaboratively with schools, kura, and communities, you will play a key role in promoting healthy active learning environments that support mental, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing.

There are two vacancies, and our preference is for trained teachers or people who have worked in an education setting, but all applications will be considered.

Vacancy #1 will focus on supporting our Healthy Active Learning schools in Lower Hutt.

Vacancy #2 will focus on supporting our Healthy Active Learning schools in Porirua and Kāpiti.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Facilitate positive sustainable changes to the systems, cultures and processes that enable healthy, active school and community environments by working effectively with school leadership teams, and local communities.
  • Professional Development: Provide facilitation and professional development to schools, and other education providers, building their confidence and capability to provide quality health and physical education.
  • Partnerships & Collaboration: Build and maintain effective relationships with individuals and organisations that have key influence over the systems, cultures and processes that enable healthy and active environments.
  • Inclusive Practice: Foster inclusive and culturally responsive practices that provides tamariki with equitable access to quality physical activity opportunities.

 

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

  • A deep level of knowledge, understanding and experience working with schools / kura and the New Zealand Curriculum, with proven results of driving positive change over time.
  • Experience in delivering physical activity, health and physical education, or healthy eating/ wellbeing initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with schools and community groups.
  • An adaptable and inclusive approach that supports the needs of all learners and communities.
  • Experience and/or interest in engaging with iwi and Māori communities and a commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, as per Nuku Ora’s purpose and direction.

Appointment to the role is subject to a satisfactory Police Vet under the Children’s Act.
