Ohoka Netball Club

SELECTION POLICY

OBJECTIVE

For the Ohoka Netball Club (ONC) to select teams and enroll them with North Canterbury Netball Centre for the upcoming season.

SELECTION POLICY

Registration opening and closing dates with Selection Trial Dates and Times will be advertised as soon as known on the ONC Website and Facebook page.

All players who have registered with ONC and paid the non-refundable registration fee are eligible for selection. This fee is deducted from the full subscription. The non-refundable registration fee must have paid before being allowing to take the court. Payment on the first trial day will be accepted.

Any player who has not paid the full non-refundable registration fee may be ineligible for selection. If there are any financial concerns, please raise at the time of registration or as soon as possible.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Selections will take place at ONC courts at Mandeville Sports Ground over three dates.

Three Grade Selectors will be appointed with a Head Selector nominated by the ONC Committee; the Head Selector MUST attend ALL trials. An ONC committee member will be allocated to the Selecting Group to assist where required.

If a selection/s cannot be agreed upon the Head Selector will have the final say.

If a selector has a bias ie. child, friend, coaching multiple teams etc. it should be discussed at committee meeting how these mitigations will be managed and Committee has final say on whether their role as a selector is appropriate.

A selector will be available to answer any queries at the end of each Selection Trial Date.

Teams will be named no later than five days after the last Selection Trial Date on the ONC Website.

Dual trialists are required to contact the club within five days of team announcement to confirm or withdraw their place in the selected team. If no contact is made, it will be taken that they wish to withdraw from the ONC team.

In the unforeseen circumstance where a player trialing withdraws, there may be need for team

alteration.

PLAYERS REQUIRED TO COVER INJURIES & LACK OF NUMBERS

When players are required to cover injuries and lack of numbers in other ONC Grade or FF Yr 7/8 Teams the higher numbered team should get priority if the game times do not clash ie. scheduled at the same time. The coach/s for the team requiring cover should request players from the team numbered directly below them ie. Team 2 players should be used to cover in Team 1 before Teams 3 or 4 coach/s are approached.

Coaches should discuss first if there is a possibility of a player getting ‘pulled up’ permanently, ultimately this should be the players decision.

Club Subs can be used if an appropriately skilled player is not available in a lower team (ie. too many grades below) and Club Subs get priority over ‘random’ players.

SELECTION CRITERIA

All eligible players must attend at least two selection trials. If unable too, please advise at registration or as soon as possible. If a player is unable to attend any trial, the placement in a team will be at the discretion of the ONC Committee, following consultation with the Head Selector.

Players should come prepared in appropriate clothing, footwear, no jewellery and short fingernails (below fingertip). Bring full water bottle, snacks and sunscreen. Additional water is available onsite.

Players should check in ten minutes prior to selection trial start. You will be issued with a number for identification.

If players are carrying or recovering from injury and unable to fully take part in trials, an email should be sent prior to the first trial date.

Selectors decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. If you would like feedback on your team placement, please email ONC via ohokanetball@gmail.com and your email will be responded to.
