About Us

There is now an excellent place for young footballers to play with like-minded players in the Manawatu.

The Palmerston North United Academy was founded in 2022 for super-keen junior footballers in the Manawatu, following the partnership between Red Sox Manawatu Sports Club and Massey University Football Club.  It has allowed us to utilise the facilities at the Massey University Sport and Event Centre for those attending the academy.

We will continue to run Red Sox JFC as usual for the winter season and for most children this will be enough.

The academy is an opportunity for those players who already feel pretty serious about playing football to play with like-minded players.  Players are welcome to train at the Academy from any clubs.  Players are encouraged to remain with their original clubs, unless they wish to take the opportunity to play for one of our Central Development League teams.

We will have extra expectations on the players regarding attitude and attendance and there are additional costs involved. The experience is only for those who have a huge passion for football and a desire to improve and learn more about the game, in a more professional but still fun environment.

Due to large numbers we can only accept up to a certain number in each age group and some players may unfortunately miss out on a place. 

Registration

There are some limited spaces available for our term 2 training programme. Our Central Development League (CDL) squads have been selected so this is for additional training for players from any clubs with our experienced and qualified coaches.

We only have teams in the CDL leagues so this is in addition to registering for your usual Saturday morning junior club.

Training is at Massey University campus:

2011-2015 boys Mondays 4.30-6.00pm

2016-2018 boys Wednesdays 4.30-6.00pm

2015-2017 girls Wednesdays 4.30-6.00pm

Ricki Herbert Academy Partnership

We are lucky enough to be partners with the Ricki Herbert Football Academy.  This partnership has given our players the opportunity to attend the Ricki Herbert National Camp in Hamilton in January each year.

Following on from this players have the opportunity to travel overseas for a tournament with the RH3 group.  In 2025 players travelled for football tours to Australia, Chile and Portugal, playing against Academy teams from across the world.
