Western Springs Lakeside Park

 Experience

Welcome to Western Springs, also known as Waiorea – a true haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. This expansive park surrounds a pristine spring-fed lake, which once served as an important water source for Auckland. As you explore, you'll discover that Western Springs is not only a place of natural beauty, but also a hub of nearby attractions. From the renowned Auckland Zoo to the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), the Chamberlain Park Golf Course, and the Western Springs stadium, there's no shortage of excitement.

This centrally located park is a popular destination, drawing visitors with its charming lake at the heart of it all. Take a leisurely walk around the park or along the scenic lake, then find the perfect spot to settle down for a delightful picnic.

If you have an appreciation for birds, you're in for a treat. Western Springs offers ample opportunities for close encounters with a variety of feathered friends, including ducks, geese, and the iconic pukeko. Remember, though, while it's wonderful to observe the birdlife, please refrain from feeding them. Feeding them inappropriate food, like bread, can lead to poor nutrition and the spread of disease. It's important to maintain a balanced ecosystem and prevent aggressive behavior and overcrowding.

Inside the park, you'll find amenities such as toilets and changing rooms, picnic tables and seating, and drinking fountains and everything you need for a comfortable visit.

For a leisurely stroll, follow the 1.75km Western Springs Path, which meanders through the park, offering lovely views along the way.
