HEALTH AND SAFETY

Smoke Alarm-This is on the ceiling adjacent to the kitchen.

Fire Extinguisher-This is on the wall adjacent to the kitchen area. Please do not put yourself at risk should a fire break out.

Defibrillator-The unit is located opposite the kitchen door. When turned on it verbally guides the user in its functions.

First Aid Kit- Applicable for minor repairs and is located  in the cupboard opposite the kitchen. There is a first aid sign on the door.

Smoking and Vaping-These are permitted only in the car park.

Heath & Safety Records-There is a book kept in the office to record accidents or incidents.

Please bring any perceived safety risks to the attention of a Committee member so that action can be taken if considered necessary.

In the case of an emergency, immediately assemble in the allocated area beside the workshop shed by the sign. (close to Lawn 4)

The Club has a number of specific safety policies and procedures related to the grounds equipment and when handling hazardous substances e.g. sprays. These documents are compiled in a folder kept in the office and another in the workshop shed.

CROQUET CLOTHING

Flat soled shoes, with no heels, are mandatory at all times. On club days any tidy clothing is acceptable. For Interclub and Tournament play, club uniform is preferred. Please see section on website re available merchandise.

MALLETS

A selection of wooden club mallets are available for your use and they are stored in the equipment shed. Please return after each use.

COACHING

During the winter the Club will arrange coaching sessions, especially for beginner players. Some members are also available for one to one coaching on request.

Do take advantage of these opportunities if they arise.

HANDICAPS

Players are graded nationally according to their ability. For new players the Club Handicapper will determine what your initial handicap will be and will issue you with a card on which to record details of the competition games played. Your handicap adjusts depending on the results of competition games.

PLAYING DAY SESSIONS

In addition to regular Club days, members will be notified if the lawns are to be used for Tournament play. Please see the website for Tournament entry information.

On regular club days please arrive 15 – 20 minutes prior to the start of play. This enables the draw to be done in good time and also gives you time for practice before games start.

VISITORS

Visitors from other clubs are always welcome to our playing sessions. They also make a useful contribution to the Club’s income, therefore helping to meet our operating costs.

PARKING

Together with the Bridge Club, we share the private car park. We also have access through the gate to the A and P Show Grounds. Please park carefully within the painted lines.

SETTING UP FOR PLAY

Players can assist in setting up the lawns before play. e.g. place the  trollies in the correct positions for each lawn, place hoops and the centre peg in the correct places. Please do this before you commence your practice.

Players can also assist with setting up morning or afternoon tea in the kitchen. There is a list of instructions on the wall for using the dish washer.

DISMANTLING THE LAWNS AT END OF THE DAY’s PLAY

If you complete your game and decide not to play on, please check with the person doing the draw whether the lawn should be dismantled. The lawns may be going to be used the next day or the maintenance team may be due to mow or spray.

It is really important as a club member that, where possible, you assist in some way each time you come and don’t leave everything to the same few people.

KEYS

A key to access the croquet lawns is available for the equipment shed and will give you access to the gate key and subsequently the kitchen area. This can be purchased from the nominated committee  member. (Refund on returning)

LAWN AND GROUNDS MAINTAINENCE

The Club’s playing day programme identifies regular sessions reserved for grounds maintenance. This includes mowing, spraying for weeds, fertilising, line marking and relocating hoops.

This work is all done by rostered volunteers. All club members are encouraged to make themselves available where possible for grounds related work. This can also include the flower gardens and trimming of shrubs.

SECURITY

It is especially important that all members do their best to ensure the security of our premises and safety of our contents.

When leaving the grounds when there are only a small number of people left, check someone has a set of Club keys to lock up.

If you are last to leave, ensure all equipment is put away. Check doors and toilet windows are secure.

SHARED USE OF CLUB HOUSE

We share our Club House with the Richmond Bridge Club and some other groups also have regular use. These groups make a valuable contribution to necessary finances. Please be courteous if they are present when you are playing.

CLUB COMMUNICATIONS

Where possible, members will receive information via newsletters and group emails about relevant events. Remember to also check the notice board in the club house to keep informed.

There is also the whiteboard calendar on the veranda where you can find out what is happening for the month and to enter your name to assist with social events and tournament support.
