The Riverhead Amateur Athletic Club has been operating since 1959 and welcomes all children aged 2-14 years.

We are located at the Riverhead Memorial Park.  We meet on the field directly in front of  Rugby Clubrooms. The field can be accessed from Riverhead-Coatsville Highway, or from Alexandra Street.

Club Nights are Monday at 5.30 pm and take about 1 hour (~45 mins for preschoolers).  For ages 5 and up, we do sprints, discus, shot put, long jump, and high jump. We will alternate weeks between skills session (learning the movement/skills) and then a competition night where results are recorded and ribbons are awarded. Points are awarded throughout the season to the first three places in each event and also for attendance. These determine prizes at the end of year. For pre-schoolers, we focus on building the foundational skills behind these events, as well as having a bit of a fun obstacle course for them.

The Club is completely volunteer run, typically by parents of participants but we obviously welcome anyone else with a keen interest in Coaching or Athletics!  We therefore rely on everyone pitching in to help plan and run the club nights.

This season, we are hoping to introduce Age Group Coaches/Leaders.  This being parents (or anyone else interested)! that can help to manage and take the lead for a age group (e.g. 7 year old girls) each Monday night.

Please let us know if you are keen to help with this.

Age Group Leaders will be provided with a free Riverhead Athletics T-shirt for the season and we are planning to hold a session the Monday prior to the first club night to run through each of the stations.

Other help that will be needed this season includes:

  • Set-up (arriving around 5pm to help set up each of the stations
  • Pack-down (helping to bring the equipment back from your child’s last station so that it can be easily packed back into the storage container)
  • Helping to measure, hand out place cards and record results for competition nights
  • Help running the Club Night sausage sizzle.

The more we all help, the better the club nights will be for everyone so please put your hand up and get involved!
