JUNIOR INTERCLUB TENNIS OPTIONS
JUNIOR COMETS TENNIS – FOR BEGINNERS:
( Age 8 -10 )
Junior Players that have perhaps done Tennis Coaching for a couple of years and would like to experience playing tennis, but are concerned they might not be good enough, then our Comets Programme is the perfect starting point.
Comets Tennis Programme is held on Saturday mornings, usually from 10:30am to 11:30am at Lincoln Tennis Courts.
For the first half of the season (October to December - approx. 6 weeks), the kids do Coaching Sessions with an experienced Coach from Tennis Selwyn. These coaching sessions teach the kids more advanced concepts of tennis that they perhaps wouldn’t get in a standard coaching programme (such as: how to score a tennis game, positional play, game play, Serving, Rallying: footwork, racquet skills, Court movement, court etiquette.....).
Then, following on in the New Year, for 6-7 weeks (February to March) all Comets players will play in teams in Interclub Play. Our club will put the kids into teams and they will play other Comet Teams from other local clubs (Lincoln, Hornby………..). This is also held every Saturday morning at Lincoln Tennis Courts from 10:30am till 11:30am.
It is fun for the kids and a great way for them to learn about tennis, with other kids who are at the same level as themselves.
We recommend for our Junior Players who are registered in the Comets Programme that they also do one inhouse coaching session in our Summer Coaching Programme.
ALL ENTRANTS NEED TO COMMIT TO THE FULL PROGRAMME.
Membership Fees for the Comets 2026-27 season are as follows: -
- To play in just the Comets Programme, it is $10.00 for the season.

JUNIOR SATURDAY MORNING INTERCLUB COMPETITION:
We recommend to Juniors that want to play Saturday morning Interclub Competition, that they start this when they are around 10 years of age, onwards. We also recommend that they have previously done Tennis Coaching and/or Played in the Comets Programme, so you have a good understanding of how to play tennis.
Interclub Competition usually starts around the Middle of October and runs through to the Middle of December, in which we then break for Xmas Holidays. Then commences again around the start of February until the end of March.
Competition games are held every Saturday morning either at 8:30am or 10:30am. The format is 4 players in a team. You play 1 x Doubles Game and 1 x Singles Game.
You usually have one home game, then the following week, one away game and so on.
If you have a home game, then each player of the home team must provide a plate for morning tea to share with the other team.
Games are located anywhere within the Ellesmere District (Southbridge, Lincoln, Tai Tapu, Rolleston.......)

- Juniors Under 12 - $90.00 (Saturday Interclub Only)
- Junior 12's & Over - $100.00 (Saturday Interclub Only)
**(We always hold a grading day around the middle of September for ALL Players to Rolleston Tennis Club, and this is where we grade each child into a team according to their skill level)**
