Taekwondo is a Korean martial art.  The name itself comes from three words; Tae (meaning kick), Kwon (meaning fist), and Do (meaning the way).  So literally, it translates to 'The way of the foot and fist'.

Taekwondo is characterised by head-high kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking.  The sport has been an Olympic event since 2000.

Training may include Kyorugi (sparring), Poomsae (patterns), breaking boards, and self defence.

The Taekwondo uniform is a Dobok - which literally translates to 'way of clothing'.  A belt is tied around the waist to indicate the rank.  Students are presented with new belts upon successful completion of gradings.
