SALMON RUN MUTISPORT/DUATHLON HAZARDS

**ALL THE BELOW HAZARDS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT OUR EVENT BRIEFINGS**

WILLOW TREES

Identified as important hazard during the river leg of the multisport event (MK). You must have the skills to keep away from these willows.

RIVER WATERS

Identified in the kayak race. There will be four boats on the river marshalling and on call in case of emergency. Marshals and support boats will be in place along the kayak route to ensure all competitors take the correct streams. You must listen to instructions of all marshals and boats people.

UNEVEN SURFACES, ROCKS, SLOPES, POT HOLES AND FIXED OBSTACLES

Identified in all running events, including multisport and duathlons. These hazards will be throughout the course therefore care needs to be taken.

FORDS AND WATER WAYS

Identified in all running courses including the multisport and duathlon. You are in the riverbed therefore expect water, how much is dependent flooding if any. You will not be running through any main streams.

FENCES

Identified in all running courses including the multisport and duathlon. There are a small number of fences to negotiate therefore care must be taken.

LOOSE GRAVEL – CYCLE

Identified in all cycle events including the multisport and duathlon. Road corners will be swept as well as the start and finish areas, however the roads are open to the public and stones are easily flicked onto the road. Take care going around all corners and returning to the domain at the finish.

LOOSE GRAVEL – RUNNING

Identified in all running courses including the multisport and duathlon. There will be a lot of loose shingle on tracks and throughout the riverbed.

TREES AND SCRUB

Identified in all running courses including the multisport and duathlon.  This is typical riverbed terrain. Trees and scrub will need to be negotiated at times.

SCRAMBLES

Identified in all long running events including the multisport and long duathlon. The first scramble is while heading west (excluding ½ Marathon runners), competitors scramble up a bank to a farm track. This will be steep and slippery. Care must be taken.

The second scramble will be sign posted along the Rakaia River Terrace Walkway when travelling east (including ½ Marathon runners). This scramble takes competitors into the Pony Club course. Slow down and approach with care.

COURSES

Identified as a hazard if you leave the course. Arrows, ground markings and orange tape will be used to define the correct route.  Marshals positioned where competitors could get lost. 

MOTOR BIKES AND VEHICLES ON RIVERBED TRACKS

ALL tracks including those in the riverbed are open to the public. Motor bikes and vehicles may be utilizing these therefore take care. A notice will go in the local newsletter asking users of these tracks to be aware of competitors.
