2024 Scorpions Coaching and Management Appointments

2024 coaching and management appointments have been confirmed for all four of Southern Zone's Scorpions teams, as preparations begin for another exciting campaign.

The 16s Girls management team is led by Head Coach BJ Rakena, who has spent the last two years as a trainer and assistant coach under Tyron Rapana. BJ looks forward to the opportunity to progress in his coaching career and will be supported by Assistant Coach Tane Whitehead. Tane was the trainer of the Scorpions 16s girls last year and is one of Otago Rugby League's top coaches in the female space. Stepping into their first Scorpions roles this year will be Rob Nepia (Trainer) and Brooke Raymond (Manager).

Tyron Rapana and Sabrina Manu progress up from the 16s girls' team to take on the roles of Head Coach and Manager of the 18s girls' team. Former NRLW player, Charntay Poko and first-time Scorpions trainer, Kasiano Petelo will assist Tyron.

Former Scorpions player Nathan Robinson is looking forward to the opportunity as Head Coach of last year's National Champions in the 16s boys grade. Nathan will be joined by Cristy Watkins (Manager), Taua Piri (Assistant Coach), and Jason Clarke (Trainer) who have all had experience with Otago representative teams.

Gene Wilson progresses from trainer of the 18s boys with his appointment as Head Coach in 2024. Brooke McNevin will join Gene in her third year as a Scorpions manager, while Jae-Jae Smith and Luke Shirley take on the roles of Assistant Coach and Trainer in their first year with the Scorpions.

We are very excited about the group of volunteers we have leading our Scorpions teams in 2024 and we can't wait for our campaigns to begin!
