Wellbeing Programmes

Rangatahi Voice Group

In 2022, Southern Zone Rugby League in collaboration with Te Whatu Ora (Health Promotion Agency), The Kutt Kollective, Youth Pathways, and Canterbury Rugby League ran the Rangatahi Voice Group programme.

This programme provided rangatahi an opportunity to whakamana (empower) their hauora (wellbeing) and leadership skills; equipping them with tools to handle the stresses and pressure of league and life to become tuākana (peer-leaders) within their communities, both on and off the field. Thanks to Te Whatu Ora funding, SZRL were able to employ a Youth Wellbeing Activator and collaborate with The Kutt Kollective to utilise their Māui Te Tauira programme to support this kaupapa.

Trusted Leader Programme

In 2018 The Health Promotion Agency, Ministry of Social Development and Southern Zone Rugby League came together to explore ways to build the capability and confidence of adults within the rugby league community to support young people experiencing distress and to challenge harmful social norms. Please see below for more information on the project and how you could become a 'trusted leader.'
