Selection Policy for Senior Teams


Objectives

To have ability grouped players to enter in the Selwyn Senior competition at the appropriate level for each player's ability and development stage.

Players to be selected by ability in a fair, transparent way which will result in identifying, attracting, developing and retaining talented netball players and improving the skills of the players.


Selection Policy

All players must be financial members of Southbridge Netball Club.

Selection into a team is done by trial.

Players must attend a minimum of one trial out of two.

Players can only be selected into a team without trialing under exceptional circumstances such as injury or illness, this is to be at the discretion of the management committee.

Players are selected on ability but consideration must also be made of the age of the player and the grade the player was in the previous year.

Selectors may obtain information regarding players from previous coaches.

Year 10 and 11 players should only be selected into a team entering the Premier grade by selector consultation with the executive committee on the maturity of the player and social aspects.


Selection Procedure

Trials to be advertised around the community, our facebook page and on our Sporty Website.

Two trials to be held.

Two or three selectors at the trial, selectors cannot be a close relative of any of the trialists.

Trials will consist of a series of short 10 minute games and quick warmup.


Team Selection Criteria

Players are expected to be availabe for one training session a week and for Thursday or Saturday matches.

Players are expected to do their own fitness training.

Players are expected to do umpiring duties when their team is allocated.

Players are expected to play in a higher team if that team has shortages during the season.

Players are expected to abide by the clubs policies and procedures.

The selection policy and procedures are reviewed annually and may be altered to meet the needs of selection.
