SMTBC 2024  Strava Cup

The Southland Mountainbike club is running a Strava cup series over the winter. Each segment will be for a month.

Rounds will alternate between Sandy Point, Bluff & Gore with a mixture of xc, climbing and enduro combinations. There is an E-Bike segment too just remember to save ride as E-Bike ride.The overall male and female winner from your best 5 of the 6 rounds will be announced at the Winter series final in October. 

August segment

The Southland Mountainbike club Strava Cup 2024 #5 for August is a combination of one of our favourites and a new track that is actually old school called "Will Ferrel". Will Ferrel was built mainly by Hadley Mackay with help from Pete Jefcoate, Lawrence Kees and Jake Bradshaw 5 or 6 years ago as an option to run a link to the golf course when the Club was considering running the 8 hour from the golf clubrooms. It has been opened up by Darren Scott and Jake and a second half added to make it a loop. It is quite tight in places, unexpected, soft and is a great addition to the network. It should get faster as riders discover it and times should be getting much quicker by the end of the month.

Directions: Starting midway through Waddick at the hard easy junction take the hard option to continue on Waddick and exit right at the first junction towards the Tree Tunnel fire break, take a right here and straight down the firebreak for about 100m and take a left at the first stand of gorse into Will Ferrell (winter series arrows are on course). The track winds over towards the golf course but do not exit the trees, follow the arrow and make a loop back to the firebreak that you entered from, finishing here.

A suggestion is to do a rece run and have a look at the track and then go back and give it a go, it's not too long and easy to loop out. Please take care when exiting Waddick onto the firebreak as Dogwalkers do like using the Tree tunnel and feel free to stop and do some track work if you want.
