TPC is holding 2 trial dates on the 7th August and 21st August held at the Racecourse in Greerton.

There are 3 Pony heights :

Category A ( 60cms )

Category B ( 70cms )

Category C ( 80cms )

Hacks ( 90 cms )

As this is a Pony Club Event, they do not put a height restriction on the ponies as SHNZ do – any height pony can enter Category A, B or C, but a hack must jump in the hack classes.

It is based on the striding – A is 10ft, B is 10ft6, C is 11ft and Hack is 12ft.  So if you have a 14.2 pony that can do tight strides, they can ride in Cat A and if you have a little 11hh pony that can really stretch it out they can ride in Cat C.

All horses and ponies can jump a maximum of 5 competition rounds per trial day, plus ONE practice round. Ponies wishing to trial in two categories will be permitted to jump a maximum of 5 rounds - 3 rounds in one category and 2 rounds in the second category on the first day (7/8/22). On the second day (21/8/22) the ponies jumping in two height categories will jump 2 rounds in each height category plus the equitation round. We have added to the competition an Equitation round (as recommended by both of our judges as Foxton runs a judged Equitation Class).

The best 2 percentage scores per rider, per day, will be counted as their score. Those with the highest total percentage scores in each Category will make up the team.  If we had equality over 4 rounds (2 each per trial day) the rider with the highest % in any one trial round goes through. If we still have equality we would then use the equitation round as the decider.

Equitation Information

Equitation Classes - These classes are judged on the rider’s style and ability and not the horse’s jumping ability. The round must still be as smooth and as seamless as possible. Courses are usually more technical and test the rider’s aptitude for adjustment and schooling and self-discipline.

Jumped over a show hunter type course that may have more technical questions and with some added tests. Halting on course, jumping a fence from a trot, or performing a sitting trot are just some of the tests riders may be required to do.

Riders may wish to obtain a lesson from a Show Hunter Coach to assist them with Equitation.
