Ribbon Days

2023/24  Te Aroha Athletics Club Ribbon Day is - Sunday 18th February

Ribbon days are a great way to get immediate reward for your efforts! Ribbon days cater for athletes aged from tiny tots through to Grade 14 and are held on a Saturday in various locations throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region. You can go to as few or as many as you like. There is no prior registration required - just turn up with your children, in club uniform, ready for competition which starts at 10.00am. See the schedule below for this season's ribbon day dates.

Te Aroha Athletic Club hosts a ribbon day each season, Sunday 20th February 2021. Athletes from clubs from throughout the Waikato-Bay of Plenty region attend the ribbon day so it provides new competition and a chance to win ribbons for placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in each event. Running events are split into heats so this increases the chances of coming home with a ribbon(s). The only proviso is that all athletes are registered and are wearing their club uniform with their grade flash sewn onto the top.

Typical ribbon day events at Te Aroha include the following, although all events are subject to the availability of officials and helpers and some variations to the programme are possible: Tiny Tots: 2 races, usually 40m, 50m or 60m. Grades 5 & 6: 40m, 60m, shuttle relay. Grades 7 & 8: 60m, 100m, 200m, long jump, shot, discus, 4x100m relay. Grade 9: 60m, 100m, 200m, 800m, long jump, shot, discus, 4x100m relay. Grades 10 & above: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, long jump, high jump, shot, discus, 4x100m relay; hurdles grade 11& above only. Athletes can enter their choice of available events in their age group.

Many other clubs host ribbon days too, so athletes can compete almost every Saturday throughout the summer if they choose to.
