AWBOP Code of Conduct Purpose:
To support clubs, officials, and volunteers to set clear expectations regarding athlete conduct, and to be clear with expectations with tamariki and whanau. This policy sits alongside the Athletics Member Welfare Policy (which can be found at: https://athletics.org.nz/get-involved/member-welfare/ which applies to all athletes including senior athletes.
Younger Tamariki (up to 10 years)
To the best of my ability at club nights and at events I will:
Have fun and enjoy athletics
Be positive and encourage others
Follow the rules
Show self-control
Ask for help when needed from an official, team manager or coach.
Thank other athletes, officials, coaches, and team managers
If I need help with following the Code of Conduct, someone from my club or an official may talk to me.
10- 14 years athletes As an athlete I agree to:
Treat fellow athletes, officials, coaches and managers with respect and kindness
Be positive while training and competing
Try my best and think positively when learning new skills and drills
Follow the rules when using equipment
Be a good sport by praising others: · offering to help · showing self-control · asking for help if I need to understand something
If I need help or support, talk to a trusted official, team manager or coach
Be humble during times of success and recognise that my success is a team effort
Have fun, enjoy myself and set goals against my own achievements
Accept all athletes and understand that everyone has the right to complete in a positive and supportive environment.
I understand, that if anyone feels I need support to understand the Code of Conduct, a team manager, coach and official may be contacted to help me. I understand that if I breach the Code of Conduct:
I may need to apologise to my fellow athletes, a parent, official or team manager
May receive a formal warning from an official, team manager or committee member from my club Athletics Waikato Bay of Plenty Code of Conduct Rev 0September 2021
May be asked to stop training for a given period
May be asked to leave my club, an event or training Depending on my actions, my parent, or caregiver, may be made told about any breach(es) of the Code of Conduct.
Whanau Code of Conduct Whanau (Parents and supporters): When supporting, I will:
Encourage my child to play within the rules and with the principles of fair play.
Accept that children are involved in their chosen sport for their own interests and enjoyment.
Never ridicule or yell at any athlete for making a mistake.
Follow the rules
Always act in a positive manner and demonstrate self-discipline and an even temperament whilst watching.
Always remember coaches, managers and officials are volunteers. I acknowledge that volunteers are giving up their own time to make this sport happen.
I will not criticise volunteers at any training or event and if I have any comments regarding volunteers, or officials, I will raise them through appropriate channels, being via the affiliated club, or managing organisation.
Always support officials and coaches by accepting their decisions and judgements.
I will not use bad language or criticise coaches, referees, or officials.
I acknowledge that anyone deemed to be abusive may be asked by officials to leave the ground immediately.
Above all, I will act as a positive role model for my child(ren) and those who I am supporting.
I understand that if I do not follow the Code of Conduct, any/all the following actions may be taken by my club or the centre: I may:
Be required to apologise to other families, athletes, officials, or team managers.
Receive a formal warning from my club
Have guidelines put in place to ensure a positive environment
Be required to leave the club
