Te Ipukarea is an annual sporting tournament that brings together the eight iwi of Te Tauihu for a weekend of friendly yet spirited competition.
Since its inception, Te Ipukarea is an initiative designed to uphold the principles of whanaungatanga, rangatiratanga and manaakitanga.
Hosted by Ngāti Tama in 2025, the event will take place on April 4-5 in Whakatū Nelson. Participants of all ages, from tamariki to kaumātua, will compete in a variety of sports including basketball, netball, league 9s, touch rugby, kī-o-rahi, table tennis, waka ama, debates, kaumātua games and euchre.
