Rally structure and attendance

Rallies are held every two weeks during the season (with a short break over the Christmas and new year period). Rallies are designed to provide a safe, educational and fun environment in which our riders can participate in both mounted and unmounted activities. Our coaches are experienced equestrians with a passion for teaching and developing our members no matter what age and stage of their pony club journey.

Every rally is different but members can generally expect instruction in ground work, show jumping, cross country, mounted games, trekking and horse management.

We encourage working towards pony club certificates and achievement badges, and at the end of each season we celebrate those members who pass pony club exams and progress to the next level.

Our club has three "Stables" - Buddy, Shannon and Snowstorm. Every member belongs to a Stable and takes part in mounted and unmounted Stable activities. Our Stables initiative is an opportunity for our senior and junior members to get to know each other outside of formal instruction.

Health and safety

A compulsory gear check is undertaken before the start of each rally. This check is to ensure the safety and comfort of both rider and mount, and to promote good horsemanship and etiquette. It is designed to encourage members to care for their mount, gear and themselves, while rewarding those who make an effort for turnout.

We want everyone to be safe while attending pony club and we require that every member adheres to the NZPCA health and safety requirements and guidelines:

NZPCA helmet tagging policy

NZPCA body protector policy

NZPCA health and safety management plan
