For sailing in
Warm layers (more than one) wool or poly-prop under togs or wet suit.
A wet suit would be great, but not essential.
DO NOT WEAR COTTON
Old sneakers or wet suit booties.
Sun hat or warm hat depending on weather (tied on is good)
We provide a windbreaker and a buoyancy aid.
After Sailing
Towel
Change of warm dry clothes, including a jacket. It gets cold in the late afternoon!
A drink bottle
Food for before and after sailing.
We have 2 coaching safety boats for our coaches that keep a watchful eye on you while you’re on the water. Buoyancy aids must be worn by everyone at all times, TRIYA supplies these if you don’t have one. 20 knots is the cut off for cancellation of LTS as judged by our experienced coaches.

You may wish to advance to the Teams Racing programme if you gain confidence in your ability to sail.
Teams racing: Is a highlight of 420 Inter-secondary Schools Sailing and is a main focus of TRIYA. This option is available very soon after LTS with an experienced skipper. Teams racing training happens on Wednesdays after school and local regattas with college teams are held annually before a National Championship near the end of April.
Fleet Racing: Competent sailors can join a fleet racing programme that runs through the winter. The aim is to ready the sailors for competition in a National level.
However, once you have done LTS you can go sail at any club around the area. Ask a coach about what club you can join and how.
TRIYA runs EOTC Sailing Experience opportunities for a number of colleges. If your school wishes to have a school sailing programme with TRIYA please contact the manager@triya.co.nz for more info.
We’re always interested to know if we need to arrange more courses so please email us at manager@triya.co.nz if you would be interested in future courses outside those already scheduled.
