2022 Northern Schools Cup (Junior Grades)

Over the weekend of 18 & 19 June we had 130 very excited school players from 11 teams playing some great hockey at the Westwave Aquatic Centre completing in the 2022 Northern Schools Cup.

For many of these Junior players this was their first Underwater Hockey tournament and they all appeared to enjoy it.

We saw some great hockey over the two days as they all competed for those prized qualifying spots for the 36th New Zealand Secondary Schools Underwater Hockey Cup.

The Mahurangi College Junior Girls team went through the tournament unbeaten to win the Junior Girls grade.  They were pushed in the final by the Epsom Girls Grammar A team right to the end only winning in the last two minutes with two decisive goals winning 4-2.  Glendowie proved too good for the young Diocesan team winning 6-0 in the playoff for 3rd and 4th.

In the open grade Howick College, with their team of both boys and girls, also when through the tournament unbeaten and beating Glendowie College in the final 4-3 in what was a very close and exciting game.  Trident High School beat Mahurangi College 4-2 in the playoff for 3rd and 4th.

Full results and final placings can be found here.
