A BRIEF HISTORY

We will endeavor here to give you a brief overview of The Upper Hutt Darts Association. This will be somewhat sketchy as a lot of the individuals have moved on. However we have tried to be as factual as possible and will endeavor not to let either time or too many pints affect our club history.
The initial setting up of the club was in 1982 by a determined group of people as a reaction to the introduction of much tougher drink drive laws and the desire of a few people to run a club independent to Hutt Valley.
After a few informal meetings and a few pints it was decided to hold a meeting of all interested parties at the Whakatiki Park Rugby League clubrooms. From this meeting came a steering committee to get the club through its very early days.
Those duly elected onto this committee were Tom Wolland, Paul Murray, Elaine Murray, Bobby Gorton, Jim Adam, Allan Cushnahan and Joe Ewens. It was this fine body of people who were responsible for turning a group of interested people into a club.
Interesting to note that two of these people are still actively involved in the club today.
Once laying the groundwork for the club, small details like getting premises, kitting it out with dart boards and establishing a ticket only flagon system the club was then functional and ready to be turned over to a full working committee selected from an A.G.M. of all members.
This A.G.M. was addressed by Mr. Neville Tristram who, at the time was still very involved with Hutt Valley Darts Assn. freely gave of his time and experience in assisting us with the setting up of our club.
And so it was to business for the U.H.D.A. and through a succession of committee's we are now in our own clubrooms. It is now our contention that in a very short space of time we have not only survived but have in fact prospered and now we are debt free. The progress from here on in should be even more dramatic than that already achieved.
