A ROCKY START
The first meeting of the Upper Hutt Darts Association was held at the Upper Hutt Rugby League Clubrooms. All the research on the how's, where's, when's and why's of how to operate an organization of the type proposed had been undertaken by a small band of people. Determined they had got it right they took their theoretical public to see if they could generate enough support to make it viable.
All teams known to be playing out of the Upper Hutt area were contacted and invited to attend this meeting.
The chairperson was obviously very nervous and ill at ease addressing quite a large gathering of interested people, however much to her obvious distress there was in attendance a very small minority of people there who were totally negative in their comments and questions.
However she was very persuasive with her arguments and persisted despite the harassment she was receiving at the hands of these local pessimists.
It was to her great relief when from the depths of the room she was rescued from the bombardment of negativity by a hero with a broad Scottish accent. He managed to quell the band of knockers by speaking out in favor of the forming of our association, and quietened the negative bunch down at the same time by saying if you guys are so negative, what are you doing here?” (Note: Not exact words spoken but edited out swear words)
