THE HISTORY OF WAIUKU PONY CLUB
Waiuku Pony Club was started 20th December 1948 and the club was offically club was formed in 1949 and is one of the oldest Pony Clubs in New Zealand today. Waiuku Pony Club was the only Pony Club to have carried on through the war years and is still going strong today.
Waiuku Pony Club moved from its leased Council land (originally located next door to the Waiuku Cemetery) to Holmes Road when the Club purchased 4 hectares from the Parish family in the early 80's. The land is now fully owned by the Waiuku Pony Club Incorporated with no outstanding mortgage on the property.
In the 1990's the Club purchased the Otau Playcentre Building which was an old World War Two Building and this still acts as the current Clubrooms today.
For for nearly 20 years F.W.W.Storey of Waiuku was the District Commissioner along with R.L. Allan of Waiuku. They were two of the first District Commissioners in the Franklin District for NZPCA. In recent years Steve Kitching of Waiuku as also has served as the District Commissioner, Steve is the current serving PResident for Waiuku Pony Club. The Club has a proud history of members becoming District Commissioners.
Miss J.Storey also of Waiuku was made a Life Member of the Franklin District Pony Club in 1969.
