Western Rangers Football Club is a welcoming family orientated club that offers teams for Men, Women and children of all ages and stages. Alongside the Central Footballs winter competitions the Club also runs a Summer League for Seniors and Juniors from across Hawke's Bay.

The Club was founded in 1975 after it was decided to split the Junior Teams into areas. It remained a Junior Club until 1979 when instrumental club figures Mike Brown, Rennie Pluymers, Arnie Buckman and Denis Morgan set about setting up the two first Senior Teams.

The two teams were a mixed bag of talent but over the next ten years the teams continue to develop and the top team went on to win the local premier league in 1987 and 1988. Also in 1988 a Womens team was added to the club.

At this time, it was decided a clubrooms were required and in 1988 this was built at St Leonards and still stands as the Western Rangers Clubrooms to this day.

Today the Club has four Senior Men’s teams and one Senior Womens team, alongside our twenty six Junior Teams.

Western Rangers is a family club where there is opportunity for everyone in the family to get involved no matter the skill level or age! We also run a very popular Twilight league for Seniors and a Junior 7 A-side tournament, which is open to the community, schools and all clubs to enter.

With over 500 members the Club continues to go from strength to strength, with a focus on providing a community for our members and their families to belong too and feel proud off.

Our Seniors lead the way from our Premier Team to our Masters, with our ECR Masters winning both the League and the Cup in 2019. Our Women’s team also put their mark in their league and we are seeing some young very talented young women players coming through.

Our Juniors are the future of the club and as such we are building new opportunities for them to develop their skills and grow their love for the sport. In 2017 we introduced specialised Goalkeeper training clinics free of charge to our upcoming keepers and have grown this into a Goalkeeping Academy in 2019. We also started providing skills clinics in 2019 to all Juniors.

But most importantly it is about having fun so we also provide club events just for the kids including fun days and discos. Being part of a team and the club environment is great for kids to grow and learn about team work, people skills and perseverance.

Our vision for the future is simple - Great Football - Great Opportunities – Great Fun
