West Warriors Netball Club: Player Performance & Conduct Policy

1. Commitment to Fitness and Preparation To ensure the safety of our players and the competitiveness of our teams, all players are expected to maintain a level of physical fitness appropriate for their grade. Consistent participation in training and personal effort toward physical readiness is essential for injury prevention and team success.

2. If a player is considered to not be maintaining a high level of attendance/availability at trainings or games, they will be formally notified for this to be rectified before the final option of a player being formally removed from that team / or transferred to a lower grade team or removed from the club.

3.. Grading and Team Placement Fluidity The West Warriors Netball Club reserves the right to reassign a player to a different grade or team at any point during the season. Such a move may be considered under the following circumstances:

  • Performance & Growth: If a player’s current skill level or development no longer aligns with the requirements of their assigned grade.

  • Conduct & Attitude: If a player demonstrates a persistent negative attitude or behavior that contradicts the Club’s Code of Conduct or disrupts team cohesion.

3. Decision-Making Process Any decision to shift a player’s grade will not be made lightly or by a single individual. All reassignments must be reviewed and approved by the Club Subcommittee in consultation with a Coaching Facilitator. This ensures a fair, objective, and balanced assessment of the player's situation before any changes are finalized.

West Warriors Netball Club: Selections & Trials Policy

Purpose: Our goal is to provide all players with the opportunity to represent West Warriors Netball Club (WWNC) at a level that suits their ability, to support their progression to representative level, and to foster an enjoyable environment for personal development.

Through our team selection process, WWNC aims to:

  • Ensure all players have a fair opportunity to be considered for team placement.
  • Provide suitable coaches for all grades, who will then recruit team managers.
  • Develop strategies to ensure a safe environment for all players and officials to participate in netball.

Trial Format:

2a. Registrations & Trial Dates

  • Registrations and trials (if applicable) are held annually.
  • All players must register with WWNC before trial/selection dates via this link: [Insert Sporty Website Link Here]
  • Trial dates are set at the beginning of the year and advertised through various channels, including email to the WWNC database.
  • Junior trialists will be asked to pay a non-refundable £30 fee before trials. This fee will be deducted from annual subs once the player has confirmed their position within their allocated team.

Year 5/6 Teams:

  • We will have 2-3 Year 5 netball teams at WWNC in a competitive 7-aside format where players focus on their main position of skill. Trials are held for these teams.
  • We also have a social Year 5 team that rotates positions through attack, centre and defence. No trials will be held for these teams, although WWNC will run a Team Set-up Day. At this day, players are encouraged to learn netball skills, and be grouped into teams based upon age and previous netball experience, as captured on WWNC's registration form, with the overall view for players to develop their netball skills and enjoyment of the game.

2b. Competencies & Qualities Considered:

The main selection criteria will be based on the player's performance at the relevant trial. Previous experience may be considered where appropriate. Selectors will also consider team balance, as the best 9-10 players may not always provide the best team combination. Teams should have a variety of combinations to provide cover for events such as sickness, injury or availability. The selection criteria are:

  • Attitude
  • Fitness
  • Movement
  • Skill Base
  • Decision Making
  • Ball Skills
  • Adaptability

2c. Trial Format:

  • Junior trials will involve a combination of skills and games.
  • Selectors will begin evaluating players from the start of the warm-up.
  • The warm-up and skills session will be led by a WWNC nominated selector.
  • Games will be approximately 15 minutes long, and we will try to trial players in every position they have listed over the trial dates. Every attempt will be made for all players to have at least 2 x 15 minutes of court time at the first trials.
  • Players may be asked to trial in different positions where selectors are looking at different combinations, where we are short in cover of a position, or where the selectors see potential in players for different positions.
  • Junior trialists must be available for all trial dates. The first trial is an open trial that all players must attend. Players will then be notified which subsequent trials they will need to attend.
  • The registration forms are used to schedule the first rounds of games, so it is vital that players arrive on time to these trials, and check-in, so that we can efficiently run to schedule.
  • We ask that no-one approach the Selectors during the trials.

Selection Panel:

  • Year 4/5/6: A panel of  selectors will be chosen at the discretion of the WWNC committee.
  • Team placements and previous trial information are available to the Selectors, if required upon request to the Club President.

Responsibilities & Disputes:

  • The Club President and committee members are responsible for ensuring this policy is followed and that the details are maintained on the Club Website.
  • Provided the Selections Panel have followed the criteria and exercised their discretion and judgement in good faith, the panel will have fulfilled all of their obligations under this policy.
  • If a player feels that their team selection is clearly not at their ability level and is severely affecting their enjoyment of the game, they can request a selection review. This request must be in writing, to the President and emailed to westwarriorsnetball@gmail.com. This will be discussed by the executive committee and a response given in conjunction with selectors feedback.

Naming of Teams & Confirmation of Team Placement:

  • Selectors must submit a list of selected teams to nominated members of WWNC for ratification before the final selection announcement.
  • Teams will be named within 48 hours of the final trial for Junior competitive teams, and within 48 hours of the Year 4/5/6 team set-up day. This announcement will be made via email.
  • Players will have 48 hours after notification to accept a position within that team via email to the Club.
  • Once all players have confirmed, team announcements will be made on the WWNC website.

Player Withdrawals:

In the event of a player withdrawing after selection and acceptance of a place within a team:

  • Before the start of team training, selectors will consult the list of previous trialists and appoint a suitable replacement.
  • After the start of team training, the team coach will consult with the selection panel, and depending on the timing relative to the beginning of the season, a replacement may be sought from outside the registered player pool.

Player Expectations:

  • All players are expected to commit to at least one team training per week.
  • Players are expected to maintain a level of fitness appropriate to their grade.

Non-Attendance at Trials:

  • WWNC expects all players wishing to be eligible for selection into a Junior competition teams for Year 4/5/6 team to attend club trials.
  • However, we understand that situations may arise where a player is unable to attend due to injury, illness or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • In these situations, players must notify the club president in writing at westwarriorsnetball@gmail.com regarding the reason for non-attendance within 24 hours of the trial commencing.
  • Where the President has been informed in advance regarding non-attendance, WWNC reserves the right to make an informed decision on their placement based on availability of positions within teams, information provided by the coach at the conclusion of the previous season, and through consultation with selectors and coaches.

WWNC reserves the right to amend and alter this policy, should the need arise from directives given from Netball North Harbour, or Pinehurst Centre.
