Whangārei Softball Association

He hākinakina, he whānau, he wāhi tupu mō ngā rangatahi o Whangārei

Affiliation

Whangārei Softball Association (WGSA) is proud to be affiliated with North Harbour Softball Association, whose established network, robust framework, and extensive resources continue to provide us with opportunities to grow, develop, and strengthen our game here in Te Tai Tokerau.

Our History & Growth

Softball in Whangārei has a long-standing and cherished history. In the 1980s, the region proudly fielded close to 20 teams. While the landscape of community sport has evolved, the passion for softball remains strong.

Since re-establishing our competition three years ago, we now host nine active senior, and eighteen junior teams, committed to keeping the game alive in a fun, inclusive, and community-driven environment.

Our junior players are our taonga – the heart and future of the game. Their growth in numbers and skill level is one of our greatest success stories, reflecting the strength of grassroots sport in our rohe.

Our Competition & Season Format

WGSA runs a family-friendly, social-focused competition. We do not operate a premier division – our kaupapa is to provide a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned players.
