Chanticleer Cup 2024

Chanticleer Cup Trials, Sunday 19 May 2024 at Herne Bay Petanque Club, 19 Salisbury St, Herne Bay

The Chanticleer Cup is played between Auckland and Wellington every year and this year it will be held in Auckland on 24 and 25 August. It is a competition designed for players to develop their skills.

Trials for the Chanticleer Cup team to represent Auckland this year will be held during Sunday,19 May.  If you have ever wanted to represent Auckland and wear blue now is your opportunity.

Each team has 12 players who are current members of a club affiliated to their region.  The team will practice in the morning at Herne Bay on four Sundays during the Winter series and will also play in the Bastille Tournament at Hibiscus Club.  Those chosen for the team are encouraged to play in the Winter Series.

There is no requirement with regard to NZ representation in the last 12 or 24 months and each team of 12 may have up to 6 ex or current NZ players (i.e. who have played for NZ and can be in the open or senior category).  However, the combinations must be made so that in doubles there can only be one NZ player per combination and in triples there can be no more than 2 NZ players in any combination.  It is expected that this will foster the development of less experienced players.

The coach for the Auckland team this year is Michael Emerson and the manager is Margaret Penny.
