Clevedon Tennis Tournament a hit above! 

• Kathryn Dawson tux into her game of tennis at the Clevedon Coast Oysters Tennis Tournament. The crowd included men dressed as everything from pink flamingoes to The Bachelor’s Honeybadger, while women’s attire ranged from daffodils to heifers and policewomen. From 8.30am until 5.30pm people ate, drank and socialised. And somewhere amidst all of that, there was tennis.
• Nearly 180 people took part in this year’s Clevedon Coast Oyster’s bi-annual tennis tournament on 3 November. The doubles tournament, which has run since 1995, offers competitors the chance to play on privately-owned courts around Clevedon, Whitford, Brookby and as far afield as Redoubt Road. After starting with a hearty breakfast and a glass of bubbles at the Clevedon Hotel, contestants collected their packed lunch and instructions, and set off in their cars. Each of the pairs visited five different properties throughout the day to play others in their grade, before returning to the pub for prizegiving, dinner and dancing that evening.
• Organiser Bernise Milliken says this year’s Tournament was a great success. “The weather was ideal - overcast but not wet. Everyone had a great time, and we managed to raise over $30,000 for the Clevedon Tennis Club.   We would like to thank the Sponsors and Private Court Owners - we couldn’t hold the Tournament without their help and generosity.”
• It was the first time Clevedon’s Sally Wood had played in the Tournament. “Laughter seemed to be the word for the day, whether it was at the costumes worn or at our own efforts on the courts! The organisation of the event was second to none - the day was amazing from start to finish. Food and beverages were plentiful throughout the day...with an added bonus of a goodie bag. It’s a social event that is a must on anyone and everyone’s calendar.”
