BORROWING PLAYERS

Are you short of players for your team on Saturday?  Then you can arrange to borrow a player from another EBIS team.

Motu Kairangi Rules

  • only players from a lower/same grade can fill in for another team (year 7 or year 8 teams doesn't matter)
  • a player may only play for a higher team twice during the season (otherwise they have to move into the higher team)
  • teams in the lowest grade can either get fill-ins from non-registered players (who are at a similar level) or players from the grade above. This is essentially a standing exemption for the year 7/8E grade so you can make up a team.

EBIS Etiquette

  • use your own players first. There shouldn't be a fill-in on court if there is a member of the team on the sideline. All the players want court time.
  • ask the coaches/manager of the team you are borrowing from before you ask the player if they are available/keen. Remember if you use one of their players, that player is likely to have less energy for their own game.
  • try to borrow from a team playing in a later round, not the same round, so that players can play for their own team. The exception to this is the teams that have 10-12 players and may happily lend you one or two players for the day, so everyone gets more court time.

So,

  • if you have 8 or more players: you shouldn't need to borrow a player;
  • if you have 7 players: you should either ask a player to stand on the sideline in case there is an injury, or, prior to the game, ask the coach/manager of a lower team playing at the same time whether one of their players can be on standby to help out if needed;
  • if you have less than 7 players, you will need to ask to borrow a player. The more notice the better.
