A cool and slightly damp day greeted players and supporters in Cheviot for the fourth round of competition.  Section One leaders Cheviot A had two convincing wins over Culverden Red and Cheviot B to cement their place at the top of the table. A closely contested game between Culverden A and Hammer A in which Culverden A took the early lead with precise passing and consistent shooting only for Hammer to step up their defensive efforts in the second half and narrowly lose by two goals provided the match of the day.  Cheviot Primary B team had a convincing win over Hawarden PB 17 to 9 with Mexley Falwasser and Mea Keenan-Smith from Cheviot demonstrating great ball skills.  The Future Ferns games provide the chance for players to show case their developing skills with Danica Clarke, Meadow Davies, Libby Stronach and Gretal Dampier-Crossley having strong game for their respective teams.

Cheviot Senior B v Glenmark Senior B

This game was lucky to start at 11.30am just when the cold nor-west wind had died down

and the sun was throwing out some warmth. The first quarter saw both sides very evenly

matched, the experience of the Cheviot attacks in the goal circle against the Glenmark

defence was very tight with good healthy competition on show, resulting in a 7 all draw at

quarter time. With a tight score line the Glenmark girls started to talk to each other in the 2nd

quarter, this was led by the centre Sally Patterson, who not only provided her opinion but

did so with a smile on her face throughout the game. The communication from Glenmark

meant they had edged ahead at half time 14 -17.

Second half Cheviot changed their WA, taking Kelly Hanna off and bringing on Megan

Williamson. There was some awesome passing through the court from both teams making

the game a real joy to watch, very few errors and good continuous flow. Only a couple of off

passes from Cheviot and a few brilliant intercepts from Glenmark’s Milly Croft increased the

margin, 18 – 26 to Glenmark.

Cheviot had a shuffle round at 3 quarter time putting Emma Mulcock at WD, Kelly Forrester

moved to WA, Kelly Hanna came back on as C and Megan Williamson moved to GS. An injury

for Glenmark saw Victoria Culleton come off, Milly Croft move to GK & Kim Marshall come

on as WD. Both teams shot well but Jo Loe for Glenmark stood out with the accuracy of her

shots from distance, and that combined with the intercepts from Glenmark is where they

were able to win the game.

The final score 24 – 35 to Glenmark. It is always a great competition between the two sides

and today was no different. Thanks ladies for the spectacle, it really was great to watch and a

fine example to girls come up through the ranks.
