Our value system at Otane School is called KAPAI.

K for Kindness,

A for Attitude,

P for Participation,

A for Achievement

I for Identity.

We created this values system from the direction of our community.   The system is based on the values and attitudes the whānau wanted their tamariki to have, by the time they left Otane School as Year 8's.  In 2016 the Board of Trustees, Whānau and Staff worked collaboratively to create KAPAI.

The great and most effective principle of KAPAI is that everyone at Otane School adheres to the  KAPAI values, adult and children alike.  We are not a 'do as I say, not as I do' type of school.

These values are about nurturing the whatu manawa (inner core) of the child and in turn teaching them to treat others the same (and ourselves).  Through this system, we can acknowledge the learning pathway of each tamaiti/person.  If we build the self-esteem of the students then they will be able to take on new learning.

We treasure the fact that we are all continuously learning.  KAPAI has helped the staff, teachers and tamariki to create an environment of Manaakitanga.  We acknowledge those who help to uphold these values and lead by example to other members of our kura.

KAPAI assembly happens every Friday from 8:30 am.
