A reasonable level of fitness is required to make tramping more enjoyable for you.  Can you walk around AND up the Mount easily in 1-1/2 hours?  If you're unsure of your fitness for any tramp, phone the leader and discuss.

A few essentials required for good, safe tramping -

• Good footwear (boots) and socks.  Gaiters are good to protect those shins, but not essential.

• Adequate clothing (thermals or wool), 2 layers best plus something on top when high level tramping.

• Spare warm clothing in case the weather changes - a warm top, beanie and gloves.

• Wet weather gear is essential - good quality raincoat with hood

• Food, snacks and plenty of water - 2 litres in the summertime

• Small First Aid Kit with the basics eg plasters, bandage, antihistamine for stings, own medication, etc.

If you use tramping poles, please keep in mind how dangerous they can be if you throw them out behind you.  Always have the sharp point facing forward when not using your poles.

Medical Information

Any medical conditions (eg angina, diabetes, medic alert bracelet, asthma, allergies, any relevant injuries/disabilities etc etc) must be advised to the leader prior to the day of the tramp. Any medicines carried must be clearly labeled and include instructions on their use.
