If you intend tramping you must text the leader the day before.

Disclaimer for Trip Schedule - Participation in all trips is at your own risk. If you have not been with us before, please phone the leader and discuss the trip to make sure you are fit enough and have the correct gear and food before you come out tramping. Do not overestimate your ability and put others in the group at risk. Any trip on the Programme may be changed or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Cars are pooled – travel costs are paid to the respective drivers.

Trips are generally “Moderate” 5 to 7 hours, moderate climbs, rough tracks, easy stream crossings unless noted as “Easy” or “Hard” when they are shorter, flatter, good tracks with bridges or longer, steeper climbs, routes and river crossings.

21^st January Pack’nboots	Daly’s Clearing Hut Loop via Waitawheta Track and Deans Track. Approx 9-10 km. This is an easy tramp, 5-6 hours. Leader David – 022 018 4327. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $15
27^th January Shoe Strings	Pou Pou stream and part of the North South track. Leader Suzanne – 027 493 2026. Depart from Bethlehem Hall 9am. Travel $10

4^th February Pack’nboots	Waitangi Anniversary weekend – no organised tramping
10^th February Shoe Strings	Whakatane to Otarawairere Bay coastal walk. Leader Barbz – 027 209 7186. Depart from Te Akau Ki Papamoa, 29 Doncaster Drive at 9am. Travel $20
11^th February Pack’nboots	Pudding Basin Falls and Salvation Hut. This is a medium tramp, approx 5-6 hours. Stream crossings and steep pitches. Leader Steve – 021 900 802. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $10.
18^th February Pack’nboots	Kohi walk, Whakatane to Ohope. This is a beautiful moderate tramp, approx 16km, 6-7 hours. Leaders Anneke and Karel – 027 415 7874. Depart from the Papamoa Surf Club at 7.30am. Travel $20. Note the earlier departure time!!
24^th February Shoe Strings	Henderson Tramline, Kaimais. Leader Glenda – 021 059 3327. Depart from the Western District Council car park, Cameron Rd, Barkes Corner at 9am. Travel $10.
25^th February Pack’nboots	Otawa Trig. This is an easy walk, approx 4 hours and with the added bonus of being close to Tauranga. A good opportunity for newer trampers to come along. Leader Eveie – 027 434 7877. Depart from the Papamoa Surf Club car park, Domain Rd at 9am. Travel $10. Note the later start time!!
3^rd March Pack’nboots	Waiorongomai, Te Aroha. Bucks Rock and the Inclines. This is a moderate tramp, approx 6-7 hours. Leader Heather – 027 226 5269. Depart from the Western District Council car park, Cameron Rd, Barkes Corner at 8am. Travel $20.
9^th March Shoe Strings	Ohiwa Harbour optional away weekend or day walk. Leader Barbz – 027 209 7186. Travel arrangements to be confirmed. Travel $25.
10^th March Pack’nboots	Putauaki – Mt Edgecumbe, Kawerau. This is a moderate tramp, 5-6 hours. Great views from the top. Leader Anneke and Karel – 027 415 7874. Depart from the Papamoa Surf Club at 8am. Travel $15.
17^th March Pack’nboots	Sentinel Rock – This is a moderate tramp, 5-6 hours. Leader Sue – 022 326 7015. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $10.

24^th March Pack’nboots	Otanewainuku bait lines. This is a moderate tramp 5-6 hours. Explore with Heather what is involved with maintaining a bait line at Otanewainuku. Leader Heather – 027 226 5269. Depart from the Western District Council car park, Cameron Rd, Barkes Corner at 8am. Travel $10.
31^st March Pack’nboots	Easter weekend – no organised tramping

7^th April Pack’nboots	Lindemann Loop. This is a moderate tramp, some remains of Kauri dams are visible. Leader Heather – 027 226 5269. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $10.
14^th April Pack’nboots	Wentworth Falls, Whangamata and the Tairua River. This a moderate tramp with lunch at the Tairua River. A good view of the falls on the way is an added bonus!! Leader David – 022 018 4327. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $20.
20^th April Shoe Strings	McLarens Falls. Leader Johanne – 022 035 7468. Depart from the Western District Council car park, Cameron Rd, Barkes Corner at 9am. Travel $5.
21^st April Pack’nboots	Aongatete Long loop and up to the North South track. This is a moderate tramp, approx 5-6 hours, stream crossings. Leader Sue – 022 326 7015. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $10.
28^th April Pack’nboots	Wahi Beach to Homunga Bay. This is a moderate tramp with lovely coastal views. Approx 6-7 hours. Leader Steve & Jane – 021 900 802. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $15.
4^th May Shoe Strings	Karangahake area. Leader Suzanne – 027 493 2026. Depart from Bethlehem Hall at 9am. Travel $20.
5^th May Pack’nboots	Dean Track to Dickey Flat and return. This a moderate tramp. Approx 15-16km, 6-7 hours, stream crossings. Leader Heather – 027 226 5269. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $15.
12^th May Pack’nboots	Silver mine, Hikutaia. This is an opportunity to see an abandoned silver mine that you can enter for about 300/400 metres. This is a moderate tramp, stream crossings, approx 5-6 hours. A torch is required if you want to enter the mine. Leader David – 022 018 4327. Depart from the Wairoa Bridge car park at 8am. Travel $20
18^th May Shoe Strings	Blue Lake and more. Leader Heather – 027 287 3367. Depart from Te Akau ki Papamoa, 29 Doncaster Drive at 9am. Travel $20.
19^th May Pack’nboots	Maungakawa Scenic Reserve, Matamata. This is an easy tramp via the Te Tapui track, approx 4-5 hours. Leader Sue – 022 326 7015. Depart from the Western District Council car park at 8am. Travel $15
26^th May Pack’nboots	Tui Mine area, Te Aroha. This is a moderate tramp 6-7 hours. Leader Heather – 027 226 5269. Depart from the Western District car park, Cameron Rd, Barkes Corner at 8am. Travel $20.

9^th June Pack’nboots	Lake Tarawera to the Hot springs. This is a long moderate tramp, approx 22km, 7 hours. Bring you swimmers if you want a soak. Leader David – 022 018 4327. Depart from the Papamoa Surf Club car park at 8am. Travel $20

16^th June Pack’nboots	Karaponga Dam and Lathams Hill, Kawerau/Awakere area. This a moderate tramp, approx 5-6 hours. Bring your swimmers for a soak at the Awakere hot pools. Leader Sue – 022 326 7015. Depart from the Papamoa Surf Club car park at 8am. Travel $15.
18^th June (Tuesday) Pack’nboots	Midwinter Xmas dinner. Details to be advised later. Mark your dairies!!
23^rd June Pack’nboots	Papamoa Hills and surrounds. This is a moderate tramp, approx 4-5 hours. Leader Eveie – 027 434 7877. Meet at the Papamoa Hills car park, Poplar Lane at 8am. Travel nil.
29^th June Shoe Strings	Kopurererua Valley walkways. Leader Averil – 021 139 0986. Meet at 17^th Ave near the Historic Village at 9am. Travel nil.
30^th June Pack’nboots	Lake Rotoiti to the Bull Ring and return. This is a moderate tramp, approx 5-6 hours. You are almost guaranteed to see a Wallaby or two. Leader Steve & Jane – 021 900 802. Depart from Papamoa Surf Club car park at 8am. Travel $15.

Pack ‘n’ Boots have a website – www.sportsground.co.nz/packnboots which has a lot of good information, plus photos of previous trips. A few essentials required for good, safe tramping -–

Good footwear (boots) and socks. Gaiters are good to protect those shins, but not essential.
Good clothing (thermals dry quickly/less bulky than wool), 2 layers best plus something on top.
Extra warm clothing in case the weather changes.
Wet weather gear
Hat or cap
Food and plenty of water
Small First Aid Kit with the basics – plasters, own medication etc. Also, must include your emergency contact details

A certain level of fitness is required to make tramping more enjoyable for you. Can you walk around AND up the Mount in 1.5 hours? Phoning any leader for advice is a good idea, they all will encourage you.

Please remember that any monies paid out for trips are only refundable if you cancel and we are able to find a replacement. You will appreciate that deposits have to be made well in advance.
