Vintage Car Club of New Zealand - Southland Branch Inc.

2023 Commercial Rally Results:

With only three entries for the Commercial Rally, Gerry and I decided on a reduced route and a later start time of around 3pm. The rally route was around the Otatara area with the timed section starting at the club rooms and finishing at Tony and Sheryn Warren’s. Entrants were subjected to several field tests before, during and after the first run. Entrants were Olly Olson, Bruce Marshall and John Craig with John the overall winner. It is a pity we don’t get more support for our rallies as the amount of effort to organize these events is the same regardless of the entry numbers. We have the Southland rally on the 3rd of February and the Veteran and Vintage on the 2nd of March. Please support these rallies and let’s get those cars and bikes out of moth balls. Howard

2019 Commercial Rally Results:

The recent commercial rally held on the hottest day in Spring although low in numbers was a really great fun afternoon.
Starting at Feldwick Gates at 1.30pm which was a really busy, exciting place on a hot afternoon and the vehicles showed themselves off to interested members of the public. Everyone had a memory and an “I remember” moment which are great to listen to and you can generally hear something you didn’t know before you started talking.
Travelling through town and finishing off at the Tussock Creek end of Forest Hill Reserve. Three field tests which changed to two with the shelter in the Reserve turning into a hot house and taking care of the last test which
was to see who would make the best pikelet but due to heat the weather won by causing the mixture to rise before cooking. Hot or cold the weather always plays a part in rallies.

Forest Hill was a stunning place to finish off and if people haven’t been there for a while go and pay a visit and see how great it looks.  Prize giving at the clubrooms and with the 1.30 start made it a great
afternoon.  Reviewed by David Sycamore.

2018 Commercial Rally Results:

On 3rd November with overcast skies above 14 enthusiasts left the Clubrooms heading west along various country roads to arrive at the destination in Thornbury - Winston Saxton’s property.

Along the way, the vehicles had a short timed section and answered various questions from the surroundings which made up the field tests.  In all we spent approx. 1 – 1.5 hours at Winston’s, where the proverbial skies opened up and a good downpour of the wet kind happened. Winston then took us along to the Thornbury Vintage Machinery Club where they were having a working bee. We enjoyed a look around the facilities which included being provided with a hot drink if we wished. Some of us, while there, enjoyed a short video of the development of farming in Southland.  Around 4ish we headed back to the Clubrooms for prize giving.
