Coaching support from our Athletics NZ Accredited and Community Coaches is offered as part of your membership benefits.

2023-24 Track and Field season coaching commences from Monday 30 October 2023.

Every Monday 5.15pm to 6:30pm.

Pre-season & Athletics Season Coaching


Monday night trainings will be the primary training night for those who desire generalist practice or introductory aspects, i.e. how to use starting blocks, generic fitness or introductory technique. This starts at 5:15pm & goes to approx. 6:30pm.

Meet Our Coaching Team:


Henry Rogo

Henry is a former Olympian representing Fiji in the 4x100m & 4x400m at the 1996 Olympics.  He also competed at the '98 Commonwealth Games in the 400m reaching the quarter finals and setting a new Pacific Games record in the 4x400m relay, he continues this today as a Masters sprinter.

Henry has a long history of track and field success, has a number of club records and has been coaching for over 10years.  He has coached athletes such as Megan Kikuchi, National champion representing NZ at the World Junior Games, Lucy Jacobs and Julia Giurjiu

Henry provides:


  • General sprints (Monday 5.15pm)
  • Sprint squad


Walter & Nerida Gill

“THE” incredible Gills - Walter is 2-time national champion shot put champion and Nerida is former national discus champion.

From a coaching perspective they coach Commonwealth Games Shot Put silver medallist … Jacko Gill

Between Walter & Nerida they have or are coaching some of New Zealand’s finest throwing talent – Maddison-Lee Wesche, Kaia Tupu-South, Kate Hallie & Sina-Marie Su’a

  • Throws squad (Grade 10 & above)


Jared Letica

Jared is an Athletics NZ Accredited Coach. As a former international representative athlete and multiple NZ champion in Athletics and Triathlon/Duathlon, he offers expertise in middle-long distance track, cross country and road race running development and competition performance.
Jared offers coaching support to athletes (Grade 10 & above) who are keen to improve their middle-long distance running fitness and skills.

Jared’s coaching credentials:

  • Former Athletics NZ U18 2000m Steeplechase and U20 and Senior Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Champion NZ all-time ranked in 1500m and 3000m Steeplechase.
  • Former Athletics NZ U20 1500m Silver Medallist
  • Former Athletics NZ Elite Development Squad Member
  • Former World Ranked #3 Duathlon World Cup Series
  • Former Triathlon NZ Aquathon (Swim-Run) Champion
  • Former Triathlon NZ Olympic Elite Development Squad Member
  • World Masters Triathlon Medallist
  • Athletics NZ Masters National Championships Medallist 


During the summer athletics season group training sessions are held every 2nd Monday at 4pm at Takapuna Athletics Club. Other year round group training sessions are held at different locations and start times to encourage running over different types of terrain and environments.



Dan Brady

A former 2 time NZ U18 300m Hurdle champion, U20 400m Hurdle champion and medallist in 110m Hurdles, Dan also has a number of Auckland junior titles in Shot put and Javelin and is now competing again in Masters athletics.

Dan has played age grade representative rugby, was in the Auckland Blues Schools development squad & played premier rugby in both the North Harbour & Kapiti-Horowhenua competitions. He currently represents NZ internationally in Firefighting sports, is the National >40 champ and has held numerous National titles and currently holds multiple Open records.

Following on from the development of a small squad through CoVID, Dan’s squad will focus on:


  • Sprints & hurdles squad
  • Introduction to Javelin


Imogen Ayris

A current athlete herself and the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Imogen joins our awesome coaching team to support our jumpers. Before moving into pole vaulting Imogen competed in both long and triple jump and was silver & bronze meadalist at the NZ Secondary schools. She brings with her the latest coaching tips and tricks, live demonstrations and a real passion to help our athletes.



  • Introduction to jumps (Mondays 5.15pm)
  • Jumps squad (Grade 10 & above)



Please note:

Training squads are offered to those in Grade 10 and above, aligning to the Athletics NZ athlete development approach unless by exceptional & agreed circumstances.


As we introduce the structured coaching approach there may be a greater demand than we’re able to adequately manage by our volunteer coaches – every effort will be made to accommodate athletes into a group which best fits their desires, age & ability – however there may be a limit which coaches can effectively have in squads.


Trainings are primarily by volunteer coaches, however where specialist coaches are sought/ required, there may be costs for an individual athlete – these will be advised on a case by case basis
