ABOUT 'THE MTF NELSON HONEY BOWL'


The prestigious NAFC MTF Nelson Honey Bowl is the only officialy run american football competition in the tasman region. The competition utilizes the non-contact version of the sport, flag football. Catering for players both male and female of all sporting backgrounds from the age of 13 and up.

Games are played at The Tahunanui Reserve playing fields (next to the trains and BMX track).

The inaugural Honey Bowl I ,saw 2 competition lead changes before seeing underdog team, The WhitE Boyz, take out the competition in dramtic style. Winning the seeming impossible last 4 "win or go home" games in a row, The WhitE Boyz showed that grit and determination that its not over till its over. (Click Here for competiton results)

With the sucess of Honey Bowl I, the 2017 competiton almost doubled in size which saw 50 players spread between 4 teams compete in the 9 week competition for Honey Bowl glory. Again the White team, now called the Stingrays, took home the trophy for the second year in a row.

2018 Honey Bowl III saw the additon of 2 more teams expanding the competion to 6 teams. The undefeated Raptors took out the competion with a 'perfect season' record.

2019 Honey Bowl IV was a step up in the level of play, With The Outlaws taking home the silverware in an underdog fashion, after a shaky start to the season.

Due to the effects of covid 19, The 2020 MTF Honey bowl V will see a new format tp the competiton run. Which aligns with the international tournament style of play
