NAFC Flag Football

Flag Football is the non-contact version of American Football, which draws comparison to touch/rippa rugby as a non-contact version of rugby league. Our program caters for players male and female from the ages 13 and up.

The flags and belts players wear are not the same as the common velcro ones used by most rippa rugby and some other flag programs run by other individual organisations. We use the official 'pop' type flags made by Flag-a-tag that require a bit more force and skill to succesfully pull or "de-flag".

The game is very much the same as contact, but is more less just down scaled (team numbers, field size etc) and without tackling and agressive blocking. The concepts are the same as are most of the rules, but it is more fast paced and easier to understand and pick up. And a game takes only about an hour instead of 2 and half to 3 hours.

Our local Flag football competition 'The Honey Bowl'. Was the first organised flag football competition run under the banner of the NZAFF in New Zealand. And now other regions and clubs around NZ have started running there own competitions. The game is a great way to introduce new players to the sport and learn the fundamentals of a game that is foreign and mis-understood by most New Zealanders. And have a lot of fun at the same time.

Flag is also what we are using as a stepping stone toward begining a contact program in the next year or so. But when we do begin a contact program, The Honey Bowl and our flag football program will still be a huge part of our club.
