For Olivia and Shaunna, the road to the LA28 Olympic Games takes another important step forward in Shangluo this September.
The pair will represent New Zealand at the AVC Continental Cup, taking place from 2–6 September, with the tournament providing one of the first opportunities for New Zealand to secure an Olympic quota place through the Asia/Oceania continental pathway.
Olivia and Shaunna head into the competition in a strong position, currently sitting second in the tournament rankings behind Japan’s Reika and Shiba. It is another opportunity for the pair to test themselves against some of the best teams in the region and continue building towards their long-term goal.
In the lead-up to the Continental Cup, the Beach Ferns have travelled to the United States for a block of high-quality training and competition against strong local opposition. The time away has provided valuable preparation and the chance to continue developing their game before heading to China for one of the biggest events on the calendar.
For Olivia and Shaunna, Shangluo is more than just another tournament.
It is an opportunity to compete for New Zealand, test themselves on the continental stage and take the first steps on the road to LA28.
