The Friday Night Bears Basketball Junior Program is exciting and interactive providing enjoyable and engaging activities for children in Papakura and the surrounding areas.
Volunteer coaches share their knowledge and experience in basketball, recreation, and leisure activities during sessions held at the iconic Papakura Leisure Centre at 294 Great South Road.
In 2025, we celebrated over two decades of partnership between the Bears Basketball Program and the Papakura Leisure Center in delivering a vibrant and enjoyable Friday night of junior basketball. We focus on teaching fundamental skills, drills, and age-appropriate physical activity concepts centered around basketball.
The program utilizes portable basketball hoops, allowing participants to achieve positive outcomes. We aim to enhance self-esteem and confidence in a structured, disciplined, and safe environment.
Parents are encouraged to assist and may be asked to support the coaching staff if the number of participants exceeds manageable ratios. To participate in this program, children must be in school Years 1, 2, 3, or 4.
