Helmets must be worn at all times while riding at CHBPC.
The safety standards of helmets are outlined below, your helmet must display one or more of these safety standards and have a YELLOW TAG to easily identify that your helmet is up to these specifications.
ESNZ and New Zealand Pony Clubs Association are both responsible for tagging and use the same yellow tags. A joint memorandum of understanding was signed to support the tagging policy for New Zealand equestrian events and activities held by either of the two organisations.
ESNZ have approved several ESNZ Officials and members of staff throughout the country to check and tag compliant helmets. While NZ Pony Club are able to tag helmets for NZ Pony Club members at their rallies, training days and events.
These standards were updated and compulsory from 1 August 2023.
HELMET STANDARD
- AS/NZS 3838 (2006 or later) with five ticks mark
- VG1 with kitemark or IC mark
- ASTM- F1163 2004a or later with SEI
- PAS 015:2011 or later with kitemark or IC mark
- Snell E2016 or later with official Snell logo
NZPCA Body Protector Policy
Designed to absorb impact from a fall or kick from a horse, body protectors are compulsory at Pony Club in the cross country jumping phase of certificates or when practicing cross country jumping during rallies and other activities e.g. camps or at any competitions involving cross country jumping.
Wearing a body protector for jumping at all levels is strongly recommended. As of 1st August 2020 there is a minimum standard of body protector required.
All body protectors must meet one of the following standards:
- BETA EN13158 2009(or newer)
- Level 3ASTM F1937
Body protectors must be RED TAGGED to be used at pony club or competitions. This can be done at a pony club rally.
