Pathways

Pathways exist for all match officials – from mini/mod football to international rules and high performance.

The Pathway for referees is a combination of vocational (practical referee development) and educational (courses and accreditation) experiences.

Courses are regularly run across the country. 

Referee Mini Mod Course

This course is for coaches, managers, trainers, mums, dads – basically anyone that is interested in refereeing mini/mod footy.

This course has three compulsary components:

- Safeplay code

- Mini Mod rules

- Understanding of signals and using the whistle

Touch Judge Course

A touch judge plays a very important role in any game of rugby league; communicating with the referee verbally and/or through a number of flag and hand signals to indicate specific breaches e.g. forward pass, knock on etc. 

This course if for anyone over the age of 14 with a keen interest in rugby league.

This course has three compulsary components:

- International rules

- Positioning

- Signals and communication

International Referee Course

This course is for anyone over the age of 15 interested in becoming an international referee. 

This course has five compulsary components:

- Fitness/ Skills and drills

- Theory and practical training

- Coaching courses

- International referee exchanges

- Joining the Referees' Association
